ISFMI to present PyroLife Webinar 31st March

Pyrolife will host a dedicated Webinar focused on the work and achievements of the ISFMI during Pyrolife’s Webinar Series ‘Living with Fire’ on 31st March 2021. ‘Living with fire’ is the first cycle of a set of webinar series dedicated to PhD students whose purpose is to train and provide relevant knowledge to the new generation of researchers.

During the webinar on the work of the ISFMI, Ari Gorring will present examples of cultural fire management from northern Australian perspective and Programme Director Sam Johnston will introduce the International Savanna Fire Management Initiative and its focus on revitalising Indigenous fire practices globally. A summary of the research and science that underpins the savanna fire method which proves that cultural fire practices reduce GHG emissions and wildfire, revitalise cultural practices and create jobs for people in rural and remote areas will be also presented.

Pyrolife is an initiative supported by Marie-Curie Action, part of the European Union’s Horizion 2020 Program. PyroLife, will support 15 PhD students across the globe to pursue cross-disciplinary, wildfire-focused projects. The aim for the projects is to aid in facilitating the advancement of holistic, integrated wildfire management. For its participants, PyroLife focuses on incorporating diverse backgrounds that may promote creativity for innovative wildfire strategies. A key goal of the initiative is to instill intersectional, transferable knowledge and maximize employability for its graduates.

The Webinar is open to anyone interested in learning about this subject, with the main target audience being PhD students, scientists and practitioners.
