Cameron Yates is a spatial fire ecologist with over 24 years’ GIS and remote sensing experience in the savannas’ of northern Australia. He is the program coordinator with the Darwin Centre for Bushfire Research at Charles Darwin University. Early work focused on the ecological consequences of fire regimes in the Northern Territory. This transitioned in the early 2000’s to development of greenhouse gas emissions abatement and living tree biomass methodology development, known as Savanna Burning Methodology. This involved the establishment of an extensive array of field sites to collect and analyse vegetation fuels related to fire information, and publication of the results. Cameron has worked closely with Indigenous rangers and National Parks staff offering training to undertake prescribed fire management, planning and reporting.
